USA need help with wiring on '05 corolla!!

Hi-

I own a '05 corolla that has a short circuit somewhere but I can't figure out quite where it is.

Every time that I turn ignition to ON position, 15A AM2 gets blown...
Here's summary of what I did to try identifying the short circuit:

1) removed IL connector from Instrument Panel J/B and turned ignition to ON
-> AM2 does NOT get blown

2) reconnected IL, unpluged: a) IC, b) IK, c) IG, d) ID, e) II1, f) A12-14 on Airbag Sensor Assay, and g) C/OPN Relay ALL at the same time
-> AM2 got blown

3) ran ground-to-terminal resistance checks on terminals on CONNECTOR side of IL (female? NOT the ones on junction board)
-> terminals 3, 9, and 10 gave me infinite resistance readings
-> terminal 6 gave me resistance reading of only less than 10 ohms
-> other terminals gave me readings in range of 10K-2M ohms

So, here are the questions I have.

i) How can I disconnect connector II on Instrument Panel J/B?

ii) Where does the terminal 6 of IL on CONNECTOR side lead to?
(I tried to look it up in wiring diagram, but all that I found was that within J/B, it is connected to C/OPN relay... I don't think this is a ground...)
According to the wiring diagram (from negative end): IG -> terminal 2 of C/OPN -> terminal 1 of C/OPN -> branches to terminal 5 & 6 of IL, 8 of IK, 8 of II, and 12 of IC

iii) WHERE IS THE SHORT CIRCUIT??!!

thank you guys soooo much in advance for taking your time to read this and giving a thought into it!!

The download on there has the wiring manual and will help you with finding the problem.

Thanks for the post.

I've looked through the wiring diagram that you posted as well, but terminal 6 of IL did not appear in it... I am tempted to just remove the terminal and see what happens, but would like to know which component the terminal is connected to before hand...

Thanks though!

That helped me a lot!!

The terminal 6 on IL connecter went to the ECM, and when I unpluged the E6 on ECM, the AM2 amp did not get blown.
So, that is where the short circuit was!

Now, I've got to check whether if it is ECM itself or something downstream of it that has short circuit.
