2006 toyota corolla expansion valve

I just recently got a new expansion valve to replace my old one, i removed the glove box, and the nuts and screws to remove the blower motor and heater assembly (the big black box), my only problem is that i cannot remove it, it wiggles likes it loose but wont come out. my question is do i need to remove the dash to access it easily? or is there something im missing? any help would be great! its over 100 degrees outside and some nice cold air would be great!

I think you do have to remove the dash-
I can check the toyota shop manual when I get home and email you some more details

I have never done this repair myself. Here is a diagram of the system from a service manual. Hope this helps some.
