Car wont start, alarm keeps going off.

Ok I know barely anything about cars so keep that in mind.

I have a 2006 corolla s everything is completely stock. It worked perfectly yesterday, I drove about 80 miles with no problem and haven't got into my car since then. This morning I go out to my car and try to unlock it with the remote and it unocks fine, and the when I try to start the car with my key I've always used, the alarm goes off and the car does not start (it does not turn over either but the lights come on) I tried un hooking the battery for about 5 min and nothing. I got the alarm to shut off by holding the little red button on the dash.

So things my car is doing now
1. remote unlocks all locks except the driver door.
2. when I try to start the car/ unlock doors with remote, the alarm goes off and takes a while of pressing that little red button to shut off.
3. the car will not start (does not turn over but dash lights come on)
4. alarm stops also when i have the key all the way turned.

Could this be due to the stock immobilizer built into the car, or the battery?

any help would be great.

It sounds like the battery is failing. I've known lots of people that have had their alarm go off, and the car refuse to start, when the battery is dead/dying.

The alarm in my mother's old van (Toyota) acted almost identical when the battery was shot. Basically, they have a backup battery to deal with then someone disconnects the battery in an attempt to steal the car. Every little thing will set off the alarm since it thinks someone is trying to jack the car.

Thank you for the help. I will try that out. I was hoping it was the battery and not something more serious. I will give it a try and see if that works.
