04 Corolla making grinding noise when brake applied lightly

My friend has a 04 Corolla and it makes a grinding noise when the brakes are applied lightly, but when you apply the brake some more, the noise is gone. The rotors are fine, no warping or heat checks or anything and the pads are still good. Any ideas???

I think there is a TSB on that, I can't rember if it applies to your year or not, but on some Corollas and Matrix's there is a fix for caliper mounting brackets, brake pad shims, and grease. I'll have to check when I go in tomorrow. we just did one today, but I can't remember what year or the initial complaint.

I know what you are saying, and i think that only imply to when you are reversing.

Also, I greased up everything well.

Better check the pad wear indicators. Sounds like the wear indicators are scraping the rotors. The pads may look good but the amount of wear they have are allowing the metal indicator to rub the brake rotors.

do you think it is a wheel bearing problem? Or something brake related. I smell a recall for toyota brakes. Maybe not

What I think is to have it checked out to determin what is acutally wrong. I am not a Tech, just a parts guy who picks things up from time to time. Also, it is nearly impossible to diagnose your car over a forum or phone without seeing, feeling, hearing, and driving it. I wish I could be a further assistance, but my best advice is to either really look at it or have someone who is qualified to look at it and then we can go from there.

Yes, there is a TSB on the brake noise.

It's TSB BR003-05

I have uploaded it here:
