From the second Toyota link:
Quote:
As part of the recall, the ECM on involved vehicles will be replaced at no charge to the owner. Beginning in mid-September 2010, Toyota will mail an interim notification to advise owners of this recall and the fact that they will receive a future notice when parts become available to complete the repairs. Owners who have previously paid for replacement of the ECM to address this specific condition should refer to the owner letter for reimbursement consideration instructions.

I just posted this in the current Toyota News thread about the NHSTA investigation into issues with the ECM's (giving you credit for first post).

I can only hope that this means my Delphi ECM will be replaced by a Denso one...but I'll take a revised unit either way. No issues with it yet, other than a slight throttle hesitation. Maybe that will be fixed too.

Canada About time

I am on my fourth ECU on my 2008. After it happened the second time they promissed me the had a new product number and that I would not have the problem again. Well I did this past May. Took the car to the dealership and said "enough is enough" I want out of my lease! I contacted Toyota Canada AGAIN, contacted Transport Canada. My car recieved a "new" ECU again and Toyota would do nothing else. Transport Canada would not return my calls, I left the car at the delaership for a month as we "negotiated". Well when they told me it would cost me 4k to get out of the lease I told them to pound sand and took the car back. Today I will be back at the dealership and will again yell at the GM to no avail. I had a 2007 that I got rid of last night. The 2008 will be right behind it. First Toyotas and last. What a joke. Dangerous and unreliable.

Wow, some progress. I would hope this site contributed somewhat to this. People filing with NHTSA helped.

I'm pretty happy about this...My car just rolled 100k, and even though I haven't had any ECM issues, I've been worried about it going out and having to pay out of pocket for the fix. Now I don't have to worry.

Also it look like people who previously paid for a new ECM should get a refund:

People should be reimbursed however it remains to be see what the actual language will be on that. Even the quote from the press release leaves some wiggle room with the use of "reimbursement consideration instructions".

Hopefully Toyota will be good on this an reimburse everyone who had to have an ECM replaced (so long as it wasn't intentionally damaged through owner action).

Old/New ecm???

Had mine replaced last fall when the engine light went on and it started to shift like an old school bus. How do I know if I had one of the bad ones put back in? Any way to tell???

The dealers don't have any more information than what is provided on the internet right now. In the next weeks, we will get the serial numbers involved in that recall. It seems that even those that currently have the last version of the ECM (02K22, 02K42, 02K52) would be also replaced. Last year, we were replacing 02K20 with 02K21, and this year, 21 to 22. I bet that everyone will get a newer ECM. I just hope that those won't be from Delphi.

Yup, I'm due a recall, here's what the site says:

Safety Recall A0J - Engine Control Module (ECM) for Certain 2005 through 2008 Toyota Corolla and Corolla Matrix Models Equipped with a 1ZZ-FE Engine and Two Wheel Drive Code: A1J Memo
Toyota is currently preparing replacement parts. We anticipate that preparations will be completed in November, 2010.
What is the Condition? The Engine Control Module (ECM) for certain 2005 through 2008 Toyota Corolla and Corolla Matrix models equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine and two-wheel drive may have been improperly manufactured. There is a possibility that a crack may develop at certain solder points or on varistors on the circuit board. In most cases, if a crack occurs at certain points or on certain varistors, the engine warning lamp could be illuminated, harsh shifting could result, or the engine may not start. In limited instances, if cracking occurs on particular solder points or varistors, the engine could stop while the vehicle is being driven increasing the risk of a crash.

tnx mikred30

Tnx for the info mikred30.....My ecm is an 02K21 which means "confirm the LOT number". Ok, I can't find the LOT number which is evidently a 12 digit number. Is it on the same sticker that the part number is on, or is it somewhere different? The only number on the part number sticker that is different is the 28113962 number just below the part number.

Hopefully it's not the tiny number below the bar code?????
