Transmission swap

Hey i have a 2004 corolla and the transmission blew, its a manual. I have a spare 8th gen corolla manual trans and i was wondering if it will bolt on and work with the newer engine. Can anyone confirm this?

I know that the 8th and 9th gen both have 1zz-fe engines but im not sure if the transmissions are interchangeable, the part numbers are different. the bell housing might bolt up but the mounts may be different, idk.

thanks for posting, im not too sure either, i saw a picture of the trans and they look pretty much the same ontop, screw holes, plugs, the only difference i saw was the mount... maybe the 8th gen transmission has the holes for the newer mount... just as the 1st gen 1zzfe has the cast mold for the new VVTI sensor and it was older. do you know what i mean? its like they knew they were going to add something in the future so they made a mold for it already.

I have access to a salvage interchange index, according to the interchange the 8th and 9th don't interchange. Just like TrdSpeed140 said the engine blocks are similar and maybe you can make it work as it will probably bolt up to the engine but the mounting may be different and you may have to fabricate some parts to make it work and also possibly the speed sensors are different also.

Just wondering, what happened that you are replacing the trans, I'am going through a rebuild right know. My car has 168,oookm and the 5 speed needs to be torn apart, the output bearing in the back of the transmission is gone,(makes a low growl noise when driving above 60 km, goes away when clutch is pushed in) which means a complete rebuild. also my reverse gear is making a clicking sound when i back up. The three transmission shops i went to, all told me this is a common problem in the corolla 5 sp.

well, the car isnt actually mine yet, but a customers at a toyota dealership, someone either didnt put a clip on properly when inserting the axle into the transmission and something got loose and busted up the internals. The car is hard to put into gear and the wheels literally hop/stick and grind loudly and jerk the car when pulling forward or backwards, i was going to purchase the car as is for really cheap, since its a sport edition 9th gen (my fav). i may just have to rebuild the transmission...im wondering if alot of the internals are the same as the 9th gen...hmmm
