Synthetic Oil?

Hey,
I'm new to cars and I was wondering about switching my oil to synthetic. I was wondering what kind of oil to switch to and how to switch it because i think i have conventional.
background:
05/06 corolla xrs
recently purchased used with 49k on it
currently since off the lot about 2.5ks planning on changing around 3-4k
first oil change coming up is covered by the dealership

help?

Use Mobil 1 or Valvoline Synpower and whatever grade the owners manual recommends.

Nope.

It's like any other normal oil change. Nothing special required.

I use what the Toyota recommends. Mobil 1 5w30 and after 5k miles it looks as golden as the when it was first put in.

Weirdly, I use Mobil 1 5W-30 and Castrol 0W-30, but sometimes get a free "lifetime oil change" from the dealer. Back in '05-'08 they put 5W-30 dino oil in and lately they put 5W-20 in.

In any case, they all work well in my '05 XRS. I'm at 60K miles with no issues. Just change your oil a couple times a year, at least.
