Oil Change

This morning I went in for my 35k scheduled maintenance and got and oil change after I left the dealer I took a small trip out of town about 200 miles round trip when i got home tonight I checked my oil after filling up and it looked like it was a quart low so I went to the auto parts store and bought a quart of oil and added it to the car I told a friend I thought the dealer shorted me a quart of oil in the oil change and he said you should never check the oil after a trip cause it will always be lower so now I'm wondering if this is true and could I do damage to my engine if it is a quart to high I will check it in the morning before I go to work I hope I didn't over fill it.
Thanks

Yes, I checked it this morning before I went to work and sure enough it is about a 1/2 quart over. So this afternoon I called the dealer and they said to bring it in tomorrow morning and they will take it out. They also said I will not harm my engine driving on it being over filled by that much and that a quart is with in tolerance. Any extra might burn off. What do you guys think? I think I'll just leave it be. Why bother the dealer. If you think about the millions of oil changes performed every month across the United States, I'm sure more than one is at least over 1/2 a quart from time to time. I think I'm over reacting. Thanks.

Why don't you just drain the extra 1/2 quart? It is a very easy job. I wouldn't drive around with an extra 1/2 quart in it, but the dealer is probably right with the tolerance.

1/2 Quart overfilled should be fine.

If you drive more spiritedly than normal and it should burn off in no time.
