2004 toyota corolla brake rotors

Front rotors. Are off brand rotors ok to use? If so, autozone or oreillys ok to use? Or another type ok to use.

Thanks

I've used NAPA and Advance Auto Parts brands before without any issues I wouldn't have had with Toyota genuine.

Basically they're the same materials and specs, just not stamped with a Toyota logo. As disposable as brake parts are, I wouldn't spend any more than you have to. I would still buy the premium grade parts from the aftermarket parts stores, but they'll still cost less than factory parts.

if you get the pads with the lifetime warranty, you just have to replace them before you get down to the metal and you get the pads for free, but if you do not change your own pads, there is no real need for that since it would cost more to have someone take them around for you

I want to get some EBC dimpled rotors for the wife's car as it allows the gas not to build up between the pad and rotor, causing less heat spots and less pulsing with better feel and less fade

the only advice i would offer when buying aftermarket brake parts from the parts stores would be to never get the cheapest parts whether it be pads, rotors, calipers, etc. as the cheap parts are not up to oem standards and can reduce braking and wear faster and whatnot. I usually get the premium parts as they most are most often oem spec or better.

...I couldn't resist...

What kind of driving does your wife do that her brakes would be getting hot enough to fade?

+1

I would get Brembo OEM replacements. Good price/performance ratio.

I'd assume that she would have to do a lot of stop and go traffic and constatly ride the brakes on long downhills.

Check out the Tire Rack.

They're prices are pretty competitive with other e-tailers.

Agreed. The only issue is waiting. I tend to do my brake jobs on my days off, and since I work retail, they tend to be rather sporadic. I still end up buying from local shops because I need the parts sooner than I'm willing to pay added shipping for.

If it's your first brake change, just inspect the rotors, you usually don't need to replace them. If they're in good shape, just replace the pads.

If you do need to replace them, I've found the brand really doesn't matter, but if you go for the cheapest aftermarket brand, they usually warp and you have a pulsing pedal after the first high speed stop.

So brand DOES matter.

As with most replacement parts, you get what you pay for.

I think rsirois was implying that the low-grade options (regardless of brand) are not nearly as reliable as the "premium" grade components.
