Strange noise after starting

Particularly when cold. The only way I can describe it is that I seriously thought it was someone on a sport motorcycle nearby. It sounded like a small engine revving ridiculously high somewhere in the distance.

Kind of a strange buzz that gets higher in frequency and then it's gone.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas?

Does it sound like it's coming from the rear of the car?

Could be the fuel pump. I've heard a similar noise in other vehicles when it's been pretty cold out, most notably my Dad's Previa.

Nope. definitely in the front somewhere. Under the dash or close to the firewall would be my guess.

I hope you figure this out, I think I have it too occasionally. I thought it was the belt tensioner- but with a new one, I still get it once in awhile. very hard noise to describe and gone very quickly

Best to have someone under the bonnet listening when you start the engine as it maybe be an engine cover or similar vibrating when the engine is cold and the noise/vibration is travelling inside the car

I agree, except its really impossible to predict when it will happen. I can go forever and suddenly 2 starts in a row. Very frustrating
