Canada Iridium Spark Plugs- 2005 CE

I know this sounds like a very repetive topic in this forum, but when it's time to replace the spark plugs (currently at 165,000km) is this something tyhat is relatively easy to do? I'm fairly capable with tools and such, but the last thing I want to do is go in uneducated and screw it uop.
Is there a torque setting required for them to seat properly.
Any advice would help.

Thanks...Corolla's rock!

The 2005 Corolla should have the 1.8L 2ZZ-GE engine. Changing the spark plug is fairly easy. I don't have a Corolla but is should be similar to ther 2.4L 2AZ-FE.

Baisc tools you'll need: 6-10" extension, ratchet, 10mm socket, 5/8 spark plug socket (5/8 deep socket with magnet pickup tool)
Parts you'll need: Four spark plugs and anit-seize.

The spark plug is under the plastic "VVT-I" cover. It might be held down by 2 or 4 10mm nuts. Remove them and pull it off. Next you'll see four coil pack, one for each plug. Unplag it first, there might be a clip on the connector then unbolt the 10mm bolt that holds them down. All four should be the same but you can keep them in order. Next get a 5/8" or 16mm deep socket, extension, and ratchet. You could use a spark plug socket with a rubber donut inside of hold the plug but I pick them out with a magnet pick-up tool or tape on a stick. Once the old plug is out, get the four new ones of your choice. If you got iridium, you don't have to gap them. Remove any plastic or cardboard sleeve and put on some aniy-seize on the threads. This help you easily remove them in the future. Lower them slowly back into the spark plug hole and slow install them by hand with only the socket and extension. The last thing you need is to cross-thread it. After you can't turn it by hand, put the ratchet on and turn about 1/2 a circle. I'm not sure about the torque spec on Corollas. After all fire plugs are installed, bolt and plug the coil packs back, reinstall the VVT-i cover, and you're done.

I highly recommand NGK spark plug or Denso which is a bit harder to get. Here a few choices.
OE Laser Iridium Part No. IFR5T11
NGK Laser Iridium Park No. BKR5EP-11
NGK Iridium IX Park No. BKR5EIX-11

Don't used Bosch plugs, they aren't the best for our engines. Hopes this helps. Any one with a Corolla can correct me if I'm wrong.

The 2ZZ-GE was only available on the top of the line XRS model.

All the other Corollas came with the basic 1ZZ-FE. Both were 1.8L engines.

Ah, your right. I should have double checked that. I hope the ignition layout is similar to what I describled.

Denso for a 1ZZ-FE can be had on Amazon for $10.43 USD as of this post. Part number for iridium long-life is SK16R11. Free super saver shipping too, since a set of four would be above $25.

The exact ones, including model number are listed in your owners manual.

I think they are a long-life variant of either company if I'm not mistaken.
