It is about half an inch too long. Loosen the motor mounts and jack up the engine.

You have to be kiding. I dont have the means to get that done. This is my 1st toyota and 1st project and I am not impressed with using to long of a bolt

It's a sixteenth of an inch too low to clear the wheel well. I wouldn't go blaming Toyota. Did you ask anyone for instructions before starting?

I looked here didnt find anything guess the other forum is the place I should be. I wish I knew my driveway is on a hill not a good place to jack up a car. They could have just used a smaller bolt I just don't understand if they use logic when they engineer cars. This is my 1st toyota been driving saturns for the last 12 years can tell you all you need to know about them going to have to learn about this car.

Dont you think it would make sense to use a smaller bolt? Maybe I shouldn't blame toyota because all car companies do this kinda of stuff

A guy at this link, http://www.corolland.com/forums/inde...s-for-9th-gen/, had the following to say about removing the bolt.

Quote:
Then, the main bolt won't come out all the way because it is so long it hits the side of the car's frame before it can be fully removed. The TSB doesn't mention this. I was afraid I was going to have to remove the upper engine mount and lift the engine. Luckily, I was able to get enough clearance by lifting the engine without removing the engine mount. I just put a floor jack under the oil pan (with a piece of wood for protection) and jacked it up a few pumps. Just the little bit of clearance by taking the weight off the engine mount was enough.
And a poster (see post #7) in that thread indicates he was able to remove the bolt/entire tensioner assembly without having to jack up the engine or remove/loosen the mounting bolts. It looks like some are able to remove the assembly easily others are not.

While replacing the tensioner assembly if the serpentine belt hasn't been replaced, consider replacing it with a Goodyear Gatorback belt, they are much better than the stock OEM belt from Toyota according to many Corolla users on various Corolla boards.

Hey man, it sounds like maybe you went into this project a little unprepared. We've all been there.

As previous posters have stated, remove the tire on that side and loosen the top nut on the motor mount. Leave the nut threaded onto the stud Then put a jack with a block of wood on the lift pad and jack the engine up a little. Should give you the clearance. Its a pain in the ass, and I do not enjoy replacing them myself.

The motor mount nut is a 19mm I believe, I use a wrench to loosen it on the job.

I also strongly recommend you support the car with jack stands while the wheel is off.

If you think this is stupid, just wait till your water pump goes. That is even better.
