*Car wont start*

following my new cold air intake install:Intake install troubles.

today I was driving (with the check engine light still on) and i lost throttle response completely. i pulled over, idled violently, turned the car off, started it again and ran fine all the way home. wen i was home i switched a few hoses in the vsv around to see if that would fix my engine light issue, after swapping some, the car didnt react so great and idled awfully so i replaced it the way it was and started my car up, pulled out the driveway and stalled. i couldnt start it back up so i replaced the aftermarket intake with my original intake box but it still wont start up. it cranks for a half a second then just stalls, and once the electric system has turned on it wont even crank, ie. i have to shut the electric all the way off to recrank it. what is going on?!

Having just about any of those hoses off or in the wrong place can give you real issues- I know from some experimentation. Do you know what code you are throwing? I cant tell from your pics- but that large hose from under the engine cover- doesnt that hook to the top of your throttle body? And the other one that was loose in the photo- cant really see well enought as to whats going on. WIth the intake its pretty easy to stall the car- on my 04 if you open the system up at all while the car is running its likely to stall-

hmm, i take it you've been in my shoes? I don't know the exact code, but I do know the mechanic said its my ECM. It's going to the dealership tomorrow. There is some recall floating around that my VIN is registered as one of those cars, and it deals specifically with the ECM with my exact symptoms, but is there any connection to this intake?

Here's a link to the ECM recall: http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/t...+Matrix+Models

Or see the 06 ECM thread below this one for more information.

When the ECM starts to go it manifests itself in many different ways. Usually the maintenance light comes on. For some the car won't start, for others while driving the car will stall, die and then refuse to start. Or there might be rough shifting while driving.

If the dealership replaces the ECM and your car falls in the range of those affected by the recall keep the receipt and any other information the dealership gives you so you can submit that back to Toyota for reimbursement for the ECM replacement.
