I used to get 350 miles atleast per fill up or as much as 390miles with mixed or city driving...I am now getting just over 300 miles...I am not on the highway much, oil change every 3k..has 42k on the clock, I have changed the air filter this past summer I just put air in the tires to max pressure psi.. what gives??
This is problem that may be very hard to diagnose. Could be anything from a lazy oxygen sensor to weak spark plugs, binding brakes or computer problem. Maybe even compression problems, but your engine is way too young for that. If you have no CEL, I would make sure that the brakes are not binding (jack up the car and see if the wheels are turning freely), and if that is fine, try to measure the mileage on a pure highway run with cruise control. Record the miles you run between fillups and compute your mileage exactly. If it is not vastly different from what it should be, than it maybe just your driving habits, change to winter gas, or any other reason that you can't really control. (E.g. it is possible that you make short trips, and in the summer, you easily reach operating temperatures, but not in the winter.)
no winter gas here that I am aware of...I have always heard to inflate tires to max for better mileage..no??
my route to work is only 9 miles round trip, and I drive the car to run to the store etc..so it is possible that it has not warmed up but never heard of that..my dad- ex mechanic says may need a tune up, I thought it was a bit early for that..

Max psi will cause premature tire wear, a significant drop in wet weather handling, increased wear on suspension parts, and an increased chance of a blow out. Not hardly worth a .2 mpg increase in fuel economy. Set psi to what toyota says on the drivers door, somewhere around 32 psi or so.
At 9 miles in the winter, the engine oil will never reach correct operating temp.

One thing that will cause a dip in MPG is if the gas station switches to a 10% Ethanol mix in their gas. I notice a difference when using non Ethanol gas to gas with Ethanol in my 05 LE Corolla. The drop in MPG is around 10% with pure highway driving, and seemed like it was much worse for pure city driving for some reason with my car.
Try changing gas stations if you always fill up at one particular station. Its possible something changed with additives added into the gas at that station.
On the short mileage per day issue, in my previous job I drove very short distances (less than five miles each way) and my gas mileage was horrible because of a slew of traffic lights or stop signs depending on which route I drove to work. Got roughly 22 to 24 MPG (the 24 mpg was not often in pure city driving) with ethanol gas. Was not happy.
How long have you been tracking your mileage? If you've only been tracking since this summer, a drop off like yours can be expected. (I've got a 06 with an AT and get about 34 in Winter and about 43 in summer) What did you get this time last year?
AFA max pressure causing extra tire wear, I say "bulls**t", My tire pressure is 42psi and I ran the original Bridge Stones that came with my car 86K miles.
Just my opinion of course, treated right, I think these cars can last forever. Good luck!
I have consistantly got 350 t0 390 miles a tank whatever the weather, 440 just highway... I have kept track of gas for awhile- I just put some fuel injector cleaner hoping that will help..
I wonder if the ECM that is in recall has anything to do with it?? Mine has been recalled..
