Engine Light on, wont start

I bought a used 03 corrola s, and after driving it on the highway the check engine light came
on. i parked it at home, and the next day it would not start. when i put the key in the check
engine light is the only one that is on ( normally all the lights come on then you turn the key
once, and go out once the car starts, correct? ) when i turn the key fully over, there is no noise or anything coming from the engine or alternator( no clicking or whining) however the clock and cd player turn off and back on. battery is fully charged, and the fuse is fine. i just had it inspected at toyota before buying, and i'm not mechanically inclined. any help would be greatly appreciated. Sounds to me that the ECU took a crap, very common for corolla, matrix, get it towed to the dealer its cover under the recall, or 8 years 80k miles.
