You might as well schedule an appointment. OR leave gas cap loose which will trigger a code, and you might get you computer quicker if you tell them the CEL came on........
I had the dealer take a look at mine yesterday while they changed my oil. (3 oil changes for $75.oo and they rotate the tires and wash my car - nice this time of year) They inspected it and found that is was the "bad" brand - replaced it for me. I'm at 55,000 miles and the car has been great, 34.68 mpg to date.
Talked to my dealer yesterday like suggested and he basically blew me off. I asked him if they could schedule my car for the repair and he said they had not received the parts yet and could do nothing unless my car broke down. Had a very poor attitude about the situation if you ask me.

Well, whoever you talked to has something up his butt. One of the free diagnostic tools i used to diagnose my P0420 code was this recall.
Doesn't hurt to replace the ECM.
Anyways, i never got no second letter and don't expect one either. The parts should of been in by Late November so get some other advisor and demand it be replaced due to the recall and get a appointment.
Thats what i did the first week of December. Its a $1000 part so well worth it if you ask me.
My car's fine, but I don't wanna wait until the ECM fails and I also got tired of waiting for the second letter, so I just went ahead and called the dealer. Fortunately they are well aware of this Corolla recall, and they do have the part available (just not enough for the total recall) so they scheduled for me tomorrow.
That's one thing off my mind.
So yeah, just call your dealer and see if they have the part available.
my entire visit took about an hour and a half - that included the oil change, tire rotation and wash. I'll stick with this service advisor, he didn't try to sell me a bunch of extra (needless) krap.
I got my second letter yesterday, it is the same letter as the first one, but it says replacements parts are now available. I already had it scheduled to get replaced next week.
Never got the second letter, but after seeing NMGeorge's story I called up, they knew who I was by my PH #, looked up VIN in their service records, said bring it in. Will be done Wed.
Got my ecu today under the recall. I was told it typically takes one hour but it can take as long as two hours. Got a free car wash and they would not give me the old ecu back.
Talked to the tech who put it in, no changes to mileage or HP increase. It is just like the old ECU but better soldering. Warranty is 1 year unlimited mileage.
Are you kidding me ???!!!??? That's a crock of BS... I have not recieived my "second letter" yet, this is getting irritating. I think this new ecm should come with the exact same warranty as the original ... 1 year is a slap in the face - how do we know this new one is any better? This may be my last Toyota, perhaps ....
