OCV Strainer

Asking for you guy's help. Has anyone changed thier ocv strainer? I am thinking seriously about changing mine since I have some valve noise on acceleration. I really don't want to remove the altenator or intake man as I have just recently done. Can this be done with a 14mm socket and short extension? If you did it what did you use?

2003 1ZZ-FE Cold Engine Knock
or
oil control valve filter on 1ZZ?

Searched for "OCV" and those popped up. The forum search function is a wonderful tool.

Welcome. I just did this a couple of weeks ago, cleaned the strainer with carb cleaner. See this DIY: http://www.corolland.com/forums/inde...tenance-items/

I found a wobble extension and socket did not fit, the angle was too steep. I used an angled ratcheting wrench to get the job done, but it was not with out trouble. If my hands were not so big, I could have got it done faster. I almost asked my daughter to help me. A person with small and flexible hands could do it faster. The hardest part was getting the bolt started without dropping the gasket off the bolt. It was very difficult, probably more difficult than it had to be . I ended up using tape on the wrench to help get the first tread on the bolt started and a minute bit of Vaseline to keep the gasket stuck to the bolt while I tried to get the first thread started . While I struggled to get the bolt back on, I wished I removed the alternator. I cleaned the strainer, but got a new bolt and gasket as it was leaking.

Thanks a bunch. Looks like a real PITA but I need to get "intimate" with this car since its giving me alot of problems here lately and I don't want to pay through the nose for something I could do. So you are saying if you had to do it all over again you'd remove the alt? Also did it make any diff with your valve noise.

If I were to do it again, I would remove the alt and save a lot of frustration. I did not have any noise, the gasket was leaking, but it may fix your problem.
