2008 CE seat belt chime disable

This is my first tech post. I disabled the seat belt chime on my 2008, this may help others. I wear my seat belt all the time when on the road. However, when starting off up my driveway (.025 miles long) or in parking lots I start driving before I attach the seat belt. I have just always been this way and I can do it safely. Since I do this several times a day and the seat belt reminder was driving me crazy.

I knew the switch was in the receiver. I figured the seat belt latch would just ground the switch to complete the connection. Wrong. There is a microswitch and SRS sensor. So here is how I disabled it.

I removed the receiver arm so that you can see everything better. You may not have to remove the receiver arm. First there is the switch housing.

On the seat side of the arm is release tab, push it in and the switch slides out of the receiver. Reach down beside the seat (under it beside the console) and remove the wiring from the clip so that you have enough wire to work with.

You will see that this expensive switch has sensors for the SRS and a spring.

I pulled the spring out and cut the outer latch holder guides. I checked to ensure that this mod worked before I proceeded.

I pushed the switch closed and used heated electrical tape to secure the switch and then placed it down beside the seat. You wind up with a clean receiver arm when finished.

Maybe this will help some one. It may apply to other Toyota vehicles.

There is another way to disable the chime:

1) Turn the ignition on. Do not start the engine. Cycle your trip reset knob until you it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off.

2) Make sure the driver seatbelt is not fastened.

3) Turn the ignition back on. Do not start the car . As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob and do a 20 second count.

3) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten the driver’s seat belt. As soon as you fasten the seatbelt, you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time, take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". You should be all set and turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt.

Cool. Does that method also turn off the reminder light?

This method worked for me....although I believe I had to actually start the engine at some point in the process to get it to work...might've been after the 20 count , but I remember it did not display the "b-on" and "b-off" w/o the engine running.
Disables the chime, but the "reminder light" still flashes, unfortunately, but that's OK, I feel naked w/o the belt on anyway. It's nice when my wife is in the passenger seat, as it can take her forever to get situated before buckling up, and I HATE chimes/beeps/buzzers...
GREAT tip, mikered
