Possible MAF Sensor problem? Pinging / ticking.

Hi all

New to the forums, not new to Toyota.

Have a 2006 Corolla CE, with 90k all original parts except reg maintenance and
Computer replaced because of hardshifting/went bad, about 2 years ago.

My wife used the car for the most part, bought her a new one now so I am back using this one.

I noticed a light to medium PINGING or ticking which i think is usually associated with the MAF sensor. I can visualize the pinging to a small box just north of the air intake tube, it has a clip for electric and 2 other small hoses leading to the engine block. is this the MAF? is it an easy change? autozone has them about $80 after core, but I read about cleaners for $5?

is this true? easy?
I used fuel injector/system cleaner (STP) and it stopped it for one tank of gas, next tank (87) it was back. diff gas stations.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks!

Rob

The clicking is the vacuum switching valve and is normal. The MAF is on top of the air filter box and has only an electrical connection.

+1 on the valve..........buy a can of CRC maf cleaner AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. the only FI cleaner I recomend is TECHRON. I put a bottle in a couple weeks before I do an oil change.
