bad to worse. help! I need my car

'05 corolla. IN extreme cold, it would idle rough and even stall before it is warmed up. No check engine light, but sounds like the intake gasket right? I even sprayed some carb cleaner around the manifold and idle got even worse. Got a new gasket, followed the instructions on the TSB for this issue, torqued bolts to spec. started it up. Now it idles rougher regardless of engine temp. and the check engine light is on, but i don't have a code reader, and the brake pedal is rock hard. I don't think I missed any hoses, so i don't know wrong. any thoughts?

I would go to Advance, AutoZone, or comparable retail chain. Most of these stores will scan your car free of charge.

You need to pull the engine cover and double check all hoses and connectors. Remember if you disconnected the battery your idle will be rough for a while because the computer must "relearn" its values.

As previously stated, definitely recheck all connections and hoses. Also, try disconnecting the negative battery terminal (COMPLETELY so that the metal contact is in NO WAY TOUCHING THE TERMINAL POST) for at least 15 minutes or so and that should reset the computer. Also, you may want to clean off your MAF sensor. Don't physically touch the filaments or whatever they're called, but you can spray it with carb cleaner or electric parts cleaner and be just fine. If you are unsure about what you should or should not use just ask someone that works at one of your local retail stores or simply call the store. Personally I just ordered a remanufactured MAF to try and fix a similar issue, and will be installing it tomorrow. Easy pop 'n swap procedure. Hope you get your car fixed soon, and best of luck.
