05 xrs lowering springs

Hi all, this is my first post and I'm sure the topic has been beat to death on this forum but I need some help. I would like to increase the cornering performance of my 05 corolla xrs but I don't have the cash for coil-overs. So the next best thing is to get some better springs right?

My main focus is to lower the center of gravity and increase spring stiffness. I was looking at Tein S-techs or Eibachs. S-techs go lower but apparently aren't stiffer than stock springs. Anyone know the spring rate on Eibachs and/or stocks?

Also has anyone had problems with Tein S-techs bottoming out since their so low?

Thanks everyone.

I would get H&R Race springs instead. From what I've seen, they are firmer than the S-Techs and offer the same if not more lower stance.

^^^ I concur. H&R race i think list something like a 2 inch drop all around (give or take .1" or .2") and they're some of the stiffest, sportiest springs on the market for a corolla.

H&R, B + G or megan racing are the best three choices. Eibachs for XRS are not low enough. Only 1 inch drop.

Thanks guys. Looks like H&R race is the way to go. Ive heard megan is not the best quality and people have had problems with them. Anybody have numbers for the spring rates on H&R race and B+G? I can only seem to find numbers for Tein and stocks on a matrix xrs (which I assume will be the same on a corolla xrs).

I tried searching for them too, but to no avail.

Usually springs rates for basic lowering springs aren't published by the manufacturer, don't really know why but it seems that way most of the time.

I've had Tein H-techs, Megans and now i'm on S-techs with Tokico blues.

Megans were the stiffest set i had but S-techs with the tokico blues is comparable.

I remember looking at it a few years ago. The H&R race is a stiffer spring and lowers the car more (close to 2 inches) while B + G is much more modest drop. However, the H&R are very stiff springs and if your city has lots of potholes and bad roads, your teeth will chatter LOL

However, even at very high speeds, my XRS handles like its on rails. The steering feels very very direct and very tight ratio'ed with the wheels. Immediate response and no bobbling or anything.

Cool thanks. I really just needed a qualitative assessment like that. How about as far as the lowered stance. Do you have a lot of problems bottoming out or needing to avoid speed bumps?

H&R race springs are a little stiffer and paired with oem struts can lead to a little bouncy ride on some rough roads but it’s not that uncomfortable. I upgraded my struts to Tokico HTS and have the fronts adjusted 4 turns down from firm and rears 3.5 from firm and the ride is great including driving on country roads and I haven’t bottomed out yet with 10th gen Xrs rims and 215/45/17 Nitto NeoGen. Handling is excellent but I have other mods to compliment the springs and struts. Having a lower back injury, I’m able to drive for 10 plus hours and not have my back bother me. Speed bumps, ya I go over them slower but I don’t have to. You just got to watch out for the curbs when parking or you may lose/damage the front bumper/spoilers.

Btw: If you go for a different wheel/tire combination, remember that with an Xrs, you rear axle is 8mm wider on each side because of the rear disc brakes, the backing plate is 8mm thicker than drum brakes. So if someone tells you that it won’t rub, ask if they have drum brakes.

That's what I was hoping to hear. Looks like I'll be getting H&R race. Any issues if the car is fully loaded? Sometimes I drive with 3 or 4 friends in the car and they're all 200+ lbs. They kill my zero to 60 time. I'm only 150 so by myself the xrs flies. You think the tires will rub the wells with that much weight?
