Question Fuel Filter on 4ZZ-FE Corolla

Hi,

I have a 2004, 1.4 Corolla. It has the 4ZZ-FE engine.

This is the first time I service the car myself (180 000km service interval)
I have trouble finding the fuel filter. Is it not located in the engine bay, or does the car not have a fuel filter at all?

Thanks,
Pieter

If it is not in the engine bay then it is in the tank with the fuel pump. Toyota generally claims the in tank filters as "lifetime" or until you get a tank of bad gas then you change it.

I just tore open my tank\, pulled the pump, and tore down the pump. Closest thing I can see is a screen on the bottom of the fuel pump. I blasted it with carb cleaner & it looks like it cleaned it out alot. Will put it back together tommorrow, and let ya know. I am beginning to lean toward clogged injectors since the pump seems to be in good order.

What confuses me is what some sites like RockAuto & HPF say about having a fuel filter, but I cant seem to vizualize thier part from what I took apart, and it certainly is not a filter, more like a housing.

The+pump/filter can be accessed from the rear seat. You remove the rear seat and the top of the fuel tank is right there. The filter actually "wraps" around the pump itself. The sereen you were seeing is a partical screen to keep chunks of particals and rust from entering the pump body. The filter is unservicable and is replacement only. You shouldn't need to replace the filter but if you do, go ahead and replace all the other little components of the pump while your there.

i did a lot more search and found what it look the right part.

go to www.epc-data.com search your vin number, select your part get the OEM part number
Google this number (Images) to see if it look like your part.
then go to ryco website select ""Search for cross-reference"" put the OEM number without dash
