using a non-transponder key

I have a 2007 Corolla and would like to have a non-transponder key made to keep in my wallet in case I lock my keys in the car.

I have been told that if I were to inadvertently use a non-transponder key to try and start the Corolla that it would cause problems only a dealer could fix.

Please tell me that the only problem using a non-transponder key is that it will simply just not start the engine.

Thanks much for any help.

Ok, I will please tell you it will not cause any problems and will simply not start the car.
It will set a code (p2799) unmatched key code, but you will never see that unless you were looking at a scanner.
So go ahead. You have a good idea there.

Agreed. You won't have any problems at all.
