See the big thread on this forum about bad 06 ECM's. In it there many comments about ECM issues affecting several Corolla model years (not just the 06). Some have had their ECM die.
06 corolla - bad batch of ECM's?
Call your local Toyota dealership and give them the VIN number for your Corolla, they should be able to tell if it falls under the ECM recall or not. Or you can go to this Toyota link,
http://www.toyota.com/owners/SSCInfo...call_vinlookup, and input your VIN to see if your car is affected.
Since I'm the original owner of the car I received one recall notice last fall and a second one saying the parts were in stock at my local Toyota dealership in late January. I finally got around to having the ECM replaced today and it took about an hour and was not charged for it. I posted pictures of the old ECM along with the new one in the bad 06 ECM thread link above in case anyone is interested. Car ran fine after ECM replacement but dealership did say some cars will run rough for 20 minutes or 20 driven miles while the computer learns the car.
