USA Pests in Engine

The "check engine" light is on in my 2005 Corolla. I took it to the dealer and they said that there were pests in the engine and it would cost about $900 to fix this problem. I can't afford this. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Interesting, what kind of pests? Are they talking animals or rodents or something else, like mechanical? Usually mice get in the air filter housing or cabin air filter, but that does not take $900 to fix unless they chewed through some wires or something stupid like that. Do you have more info on this? What was the check engine light code?

Rodents. The parts would be about $500. The labor would be about $400.

That's just ridiculous... Start by getting your check engine light trouble code read. They do it for free at Autozone, and maybe at Napa, Oreilly's, or Carquest.
