2003 Corolla front end noise under floor

While I'm driving I hear a banging sound. It sounds like it's under my feet. It sounds like a metal pipe banging on another piece of metal. What can this be? I took it to a mechanic; he took it for a drive and said he didnt hear anything. Any help is appreciated.

Loose heat shield or splash guard. Check the splash shield under the car for missing retainers.

The spash guards are plastic. They're always missing the little clips. I replaced them. The noise is more like a metal on metal clanking sound, not constant but very noticeable over potholes and turns. Sound comes from somewhere up in the front end of car. We can sort of feel it under the floorboard when it happens. Could it be the sway bar or CV joints?

Carefully Jack up the front end and spin the front wheels by hand in neutral. Also rock the wheel by grabbing the top and bottom and check for play. If you hear a noise or there is play in the wheels, you may need new wheel bearings.

Wheel bearings make a constant humming sound. Banging means something else.

It could be worn out stabilizer bar's frame mount bushings.
