Spark Plugs 2007 CE

Greetings,

I always know where to go when it is time to service something I haven't done yet on my baby, 07 CE, to T Nation!!!

Little over 120,00, running great, as always, except for that position-picky overhead light switch, she's the same as the day I got her. Nonetheless, it's time to change the spark plugs.

Any insight that can be provided would very much appreciated, maybe I can be pointed to an existing thread. I searched but didn't locate a thread that satisfied my interest of how-to.

What all will need to replace (plugs, wires, packs, etc)? What tools will be needed for the job? Any special steps I need to know of?

Thanks in advance?

1ZZ-FE spark plug replacement video:

I do it without disconnecting the coils over plugs. There are no wires to replace.

My NGK Iridium IX plugs (φ 0.6 mm iridium alloy center electrode) were good for the 90000 miles that I used them, although the ground electrodes had worn down enough to increase gap from 1.1 to about 1.25 mm... My actual Bosch Platinum-Ir Fusion plugs are running exeptionally well. Its four yttrium-enhanced ground electrode design with exclusive surface air gap firing technology produce a longer, more powerful spark. They outperform OE iridium plugs by significantly reducing gap wear. Voltage requirement increases less over time than other iridium plugs. This results in less stress on the ignition system for quicker starts, more efficient fuel combustion, and a longer performance life.

Original standard plugs are Denso's Iridium Long-Life SK16R11 (φ 0.7 mm iridium alloy center electrode) with platinum coated ground electrode.
You can upgrade to Denso Iridium Power IK16 (φ 0.4 mm iridium alloy center electrode) with taper-cut U-groove ground electrode, or Denso Iridium Tough VK16 (φ 0.4 mm iridium alloy center electrode) with platinum tipped ground electrode. Quality is a bit better than NGK... They're all pre-gapped to 1.1 mm (0.0433"), as required.

Thanks for the vid. changed them and all is well. I went ahead and went with the NGK 5464. $7.09 + tax each!!!

Figured I would go ahead an put it in writing for future reference.

Simple steps

1> disconnect battery

2> remove plastic engine cover

3> disconnect all coil packs

4> remove pack screw

5> remove screw that affixes the connector wiring harness cover

6> remove packs

7> remove plugs

8> insert and slightly tighten new plugs

9> torque plugs 18ft lbs

10> reinsert the packs

11> reinsert pack screws and torque 9ft lbs

12> reattach wiring harness cover screw

13> reconnect coil packs connectors

14> reattach plastic engine cover

15> reconnect battery, done*

* please note that when I went to start my car the first time it did not start. It did start on the second try. When I first started driving the idle was a little low. I drove a mile or so and stopped, the idle was low, about 650 or 700rpm, after sitting there for a minute the idle gradually worked its way up to the norm of 900rpm that my baby idles at. Then I drove about drove about 8 miles or so and everything is running great. I don't know if the car's computer needed some time, and engine cycles, to make adjustments for the new plugs, so that the car would run normal, or not? Either way, don't get discouraged if she doesn't seem right at first. The issues seem to self-correct.
