Hello - Newbie here. I wanted to post this question to see if anyone has had a similar experience and might know what's going on.
My husband's 2006 Corolla has had its check engine light on for a few months now. He was smelling gas when he ran his car but other than that, there was no issue besides the light itself. Initially, we assumed it had to do with the recent Toyota Recall on his year/model regarding the engine control module being defective. He took the vehicle into the dealership as specified and the problem was corrected.
The light stayed off for about 3 days. Then it came back on and my husband took it to a local shop who told him the code read "major system leak".

The shop replaced his gas cap which was determined to be faulty. After the gas cap was replaced, the gas smell stopped.
Now, however, the light is back on. Has anyone had a similar issue or have any idea what might be wrong with the car? I believe the code is still reading the same and the gas smell is still gone. There are no fluid leaks that we can see under the car when it's been parked and there are no other indications of something leaking (smell/problems with the way the car runs, puddles, etc.). We're not sure just how urgent this may be. Any help is very much appreciated!!
