05 Corolla Cruise Switch

A few months back while traveling and going to use the cruise control, the arm snapped. No worries..I was able to find the switch at parts.com and even submitted the VIN from my Corolla so that I could get an exact parts match. They gave me an exact part number and I received the part yesterday. I went to install the switch and noticed that the connectors inside the steering wheel on the old and new switch are different. Aside from returning the part...Any suggestions? I am trying to avoid cutting wires and attaching the old connector to the new switch. (Old switch-black connector, has a ground connection, New switch-white connector, no ground connection) Thanks!

I added CC to my car using the switch from the following thread

DIY: Aftermarket cruise control install

There's a method (using a push pin) to remove the wires out of the connectors. And once out they can just be pushed back in. I found it was very easy to remove the wire from the connector. Just follow the instructions, if you want to go this route.

So does the white connector fit into the existing socket? If so you can just pop out the green (ground) wire out of the old connector and put that wire into the new white connector.

If it doesn't fit, you could move the black connector over onto the new switch. Leave the ground wire intact on the black connector, remove the red and white wires from both connectors, and then move the black connector onto the wires on the new switch. (Per the pictures wires are green (ground) furthest left, then red, then white.

If it doesn't work, you could always put the white connector back on and return it.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. That DIY is extremely helpful.

The new switch I ordered with the white connector does not fit in the 05 Corolla. They are totally different connectors. However, after taking a look at the DIY I was able to get the ground wire out of the old connector. I am going to return the previous part ordered. It was around $100 shipped. I just ordered the ACDelco part from Amazon to save a few bucks. It looks like it should arrive with the proper connector. I'll pop the ground wire in and then complete the installation. The push pin method tends to ruin the old connector...but that's okay since the new one is on the way.
