First check to be sure the gas cap is on tightly (turned until it clicks). Make sure the car has new gas in it. Old gas can cause certain problems. Then run the car for 100 miles or so and see if that check engine light goes out. If it does, it then may pass inspection. I don't remember if you'll have to erase the codes to have it pass in MA.
ECM replacement will cause the first few starts to run rough, until the ECM has calibrated itself during the driving. An emission test shouldn't be performed until the ECM has completed this self calibration. (it would likely take much less than 100 miles, but the longer the drive, the more likely everything will be set for optimum emission testing, including newer gas through the system)
You also might want to make sure they put the proper amount of oil in your car during the oil change. I've had dealers that leave the oil about one quart low after an oil change (on numerous occasions).
