With gas the way it is right now I decided to see just how good my Corolla could be to me. Under normal driving mixed city/highway (on CT's hilly highways I might add) she normally averages around 33MPG.
I made sure tire pressure was ideal (38PSI) and removed anything that I didn't need to be lugging around (nothing severe like taking out the back seat or spare...just junk). I also made a point to drive consciously, lifting off/coasting whenever possible, but still sticking with the flow of traffic and trying my best not to piss off others (well, unless they were really asking for it). AC/defroster was used about 20% of the time.
The result today was an average of 37.5MPG. 400 miles on 10.66 gallons.
The EPA can take their 'revised' average of 29MPG and shove it!
BTW, this is an auto, and there was no shifting into neutral while coasting or anything like that.

I used the same pump at the station for the before and after fillings. Each time I filled till it clicked off, waited for the tank gurgling to stop, then filled till it stopped again.
I'll see what I can get on this current tank, but it's supposed to be warmer and rainy/humid for a while so there will probably be more AC/defroster use which will knock it down a little.
My goal is to hit 400 miles before filling up every tank. The light had just come on, and I usually go 25-30 miles past that point, but I was passing the station I used previously, and they happen to have good coffee...
On the way back from a trip to GA about 2 years ago she managed 41.2MPG pure highway at a rough average of 75MPH. Oh the wonders of having highways that are mostly flat...

See if you can join the club linked in my signature! I get 525 - 550 miles per tank. I'm averaging 39.5 - 37.5 mpg, but I'm pushing it closer to empty than you are.

I'll see, but I'll need better highways than what's around here, and there's too much stop & go between jobs. Without trying for good mileage I've gotten 41.2 on relatively flat highway, but here it's all hilly with morons going to the casinos cutting you off.
I stopped trying to go as long as possible after my last Corolla nearly stalled as I was getting to a gas station. 12.9 gallon tank on it and it took 12.6... Most I've ever needed in the 13.2 gallon tank of the current Corolla is just under 12 gallons.

Sorry, been working a lot lately and haven't been on much.
It's a 2005 Corolla LE (electronic throttle)
Auto
The following tank only got me 35.6MPG, but there were a good 2 hours of highway parking lot traffic due to accidents and construction. Both times there were cars around me with people smoking constantly, so I had to keep the windows up and the AC on. The defroster was also on almost constantly because it was rainy for a whole week and the windows fogged up like crazy. Not bad considering all that.
This tank is looking good. At 390 miles and no gas light yet. I went to the auto show in Manhattan this past weekend, so this tank includes ~180 miles on I-95 in CT and ~60 miles on NY parkways going from the NY line down into the city. Conservative driving was not an option because I rather enjoy this whole being alive business...anyone that's been on either stretch of road knows what I'm talking about.

I usually top off every 3-4 days which equates to around 150 miles of driving. It's good mix of highway and city but I generally average in the 35 MPG range. Every now and then I hit the 40+ mark, but 35 is a good figure. I stay 55 on the interstate and +-35 in the city. Tucson's lites were timed by a 3rd grader so the idle time chews up any good MPG stats. I'd love to hit 500 in a single tank, but am far to OCD to go that far without filling up. Suffice to say, I get far better mileage than the sticker said.
2007 Corolla "S"
I always wondered how the 'revised' figure for the car is 29MPG. I mean maybe if I let it get into a serious state of disrepair and drove with overdrive off...
The tank including the NYC trip averaged 37.7MPG. Pretty pleased with that given that I didn't overly try for good mileage. It was mostly highway though.
