The DEFINITIVE Disable DRL/Automatic Night Lights Thread

Okay, i'm immensely interested in this because I have some halo projectors on the way and want to be able to idle or show off the halo LEDs in my headlights at night.

So i've seen the thread already that says how to disable them. And i'm not interested in making a switch to disable/enable them. I can remember on my own to turn on my own headlamps at night ^_^.

The issue i'm running into are conflicting details on how to properly do it.

Doing a bit of googling reveals a few things. Obviously the wire box under the steering column above the brake pedal controls these features, the DRL and automatic night time headlights.

What isn't so clear is what a proper procedure and what the proper wires to cut are for disabling both is. I have read that if you cut the 12 pin red wire it disable DRLs and possibly automatic headlights. But i'm not sure. Others suggest cutting a yellow wire to disable both, but I am not sure which wire that is. It might be the yellow wire in the included picture but I can't be sure.

Lets get some discussion going and find out WHAT NEEDS TO BE CUT SPECIFICALLY to disable certain features.

To disable DRL, cut: "i believe that cutting and grounding the yellow wire was for DRL disable for 03-04 corollas" -TrdSpeed140
To disable BOTH, cut: "I cut the red wire on my 06 to disable DRLs and auto on..haven't had any issues" -constricted

It is supposed that disabling DRLs eliminates automatic night headlight functionality.

Lastly, will editing any of these features screw up dash lights such as gauges and the climate/radio controls?

I hate drl's on any car! I have regular fog lights on my 91 that stay on all the time though. Those are led bulbs though. Well on my friends 2003, he had the drl's and he got a HID kit and those were always on. And then one day I noticed they didn't properly put the balast AND relay anywhere safe they didn't screw them in or tie strap them. I proprly put them on, then his drl's were disabled! Now he has to turn them on manually! O.o weird right? Didn't mean to tread Jack just decided to share this info.

i believe that cutting and grounding the yellow wire was for DRL disable for 03-04 corollas, and for 05-08 you just needed to cut (no grounding necessary) the red/white wire (pin 12).

I have a 2006 corolla s, and I cut the wire going to pin 12 and taped off both ends. This disabled both my DRL's and the automatic night lights, and didn't have any adverse effects on any other lighting in my car.

2007 Corolla LE, thought I post the picture looking up from the driver's footwell. Didn't remove the DRL module, didn't disconnect the battery. Just found wire from pin #12 (red with white stripe) and cut+tape. Worked perfectly.

I cut the yellow wire and grounded it (the side coming from the module). My DRL and automatic lights are now dissambled. I just did it today.

I did mine Saturday, and I love showing off my independent fog lights. All I had to do was cut the red wire. 2005 Corolla CE
