Hey all, my sister has an 05 corolla S with 72,000 miles that has been throwing on the check engine light everytime she is on the freeway. Around town, it seems like it stays off. She just bought it used...anyways, we call the toyota dealer and give them our vin number and they tell us the car is not covered under the ecu warranty.

The code was PO741...torque converter clutch selanoid performance. The trans shifts good. Is it possible the trans is going out? What do we do?

It could be an ECU issue. Toyota has a recall out to replace the ECU's on 05-08 Corollas with auto trans. Did your car have the recall done? If it's not an ECU I wouldn't panic. I dont think you would need a transmission. There are 2 possible other culprits that can be causing your issue; 1st being a bad torque converter solenoid itself, 2nd being dirty trans fliud and debris causing your solenoid to fail or stick.
