Excessive Interior Water Leak

Well, here in Hamilton we've had rain for the last 5 days straight, and have rain scheduled for the next 4 of 6 days straight.

Over the last 4 days I have been trying to diagnose my newest frustrating problem.
I'm having not just a few drips of water enter my car. It's enough to soak the front driver and passenger seat cushions. There is also soaked front carpets under the floor mats which have water in them. In the cupholders can be found water. Everyday, I dry all this up the best I can.

During acceleration water can be found dripping from the moonroof controls, and the top section of the A pillar plastic moulding.

The Diagnoses:
From what I have read on here and other sites I have done the following:

I have checked and re checked to be absolutely I am properly closing every window in the car, including the moon roof.

THe moonrood was opened to see all drainage passages. Water was poured in to these passageways at high volume. The passageways right away cleared this high amount of water leading it to the ground right behind the front tires. Does not seem like there is a blockage in anyway.

However, when water does not enter the passageways,(enters track area) it does end up in these locations where I am finding water.

I've had someone blast water from a hose on to my roof area and I can not see any signs of a leak. Although water does enter the passageways and exit the car at ground level.

Am I missing something here? Why does this seem so difficult to trace?

Thanks
Ryan

Ha Ha, its like trying to find a leak in a house roof. I hate moon/ sun roofs , I have never had one that didnt start to leak as the car got older. Sounds like you are doing the right stuff to find it though. So do you know its leaking through the moon roof for sure? My leaks were always caused by blocked or restricted drains or broken or disconnected drain lines.

I really can't say anything "for sure," as I haven't even been able to re-create the leak myself. Which I find awfully strange.

I strongly believe it has something to do with the moonroof. Almost as if the water leaks by the seals on the moonroof, misses the gutter lanes somehow and enters the interior.

That's all I can think of right now.

The drains work very well and remove all the water.

My hyundai used to leak... it might be a pita, but what I did was remove my headliner and draw a thick chalk-line all the way around the sunroof. Then, the next morning, the area that was leaking had smeared the chalk and I was able to figure out where my leak was. I then went crazy with caulk and adhesive to seal it as best I could... just a thought...

Good luck, I hated my leaking roof... heres a link to how-to remove your headliner...

In 1987 I bought a Chevy Z24 (Sweet looking Cavilier) It was my first ever brand new car....and the biggest POS I ever owned. It leaked like a sive inside, carpets and pad were soaked. Ended up being the air conditioning condensor drain line. It had clogged and all the condensation coming off the A/C unit flowed into my cars interior. In Florida, during the summer, you run the A/C ALL the time.

ryan - Mine leaked into the floor of the right rear passengers feet area. There are drains in the rear side of the sunroof as well. It drains behind the rear tires. I checked my right rear drain line below the vehicle, I poked a screw driver up in there and a bunch of water came out.

I had a period where it rained for about 4 days straight, and that's when my floor got wet. I'm wondering if my drain line was plugged enough to cause it to overflow the drain pain. Maybe you've checked your rear drain lines, but if not, shove a screw driver up them and see if water runs out.

The moonroof in my car is leaking from the small gap in the rubber that surrounds the glass. With the roof closed the gap is slightly behind the water tray and over the headliner. I'll post a picture later.

I tested this by stuffing a rag underneath the gap. At the end of a rainy day the rag was soaked but the interior was dry. I'm not sure if I should replace the rubber or just use rubber cement to seal the gap.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Just an update. I tried a couple of the methods mentioned, however still can not locate this. Although I can not find it, I have not seen water inside since. Still believe the issue remains.

It's very strange.
