realistically get if I decided to sell my 1999 Toyota Corolla CE. I'm the 2nd owner, the first owner was a 57 year old lady, widowed, no kids, not pets, non-smoker, who "knew a guy named Ryan that was very nice at the Toyota of Dallas dealer" and always took her car there for Everything. Literally. Light bulbs? dealer. wipers? dealer. tires? dealer.
I bought the car because the lady moved to a houseboat with her daughter and they have a nissan versa that she will apparently drive.
so I score this bad boy for $1500! had 167,xxx miles when i got it. now its got about 175k
she took "good" care of it - but i babied it upon reciept. full tune up, steam washed the engine replaced old worn plastic parts, yellow headlights, new window motor and upgraded a few engine items. put tint on all windows, installed 4 speakes and new cd player (had original cassete player).
the lady gave me ALL BOOKS AND RECORDS. seriously. 3 sets of keys, plus valet key. owners manual, quick reference guide, warranty booklet, maintenance booklet. everything she ever got was at the toyota dealer and kept it on a folder. with reciept attached. has original window sticker(s), original invoice from the sale back in 1999. dealer tags, all the renewal letters from the DMV year to year. contiunious insurance cards with consistent coverage for the past 11 years.
she managed to put new tires/brakes all around before selling it - done at the toyota dealer of course.
the car is immaculate, with no dings dents, major scratches. the only downside is that the windshield has a few spider cracks and a long crack along the top of the windshield.
after the full tune up - the car averages about 33-39mpg - with A/C ON with an average speed of 72.41 mph on a 36 mile one way trip to work, in traffic.
its probably considered certified, due to all the documentation, but as I did all the maintenance afterwards - I only have the reciepts from the parts purchased.
Reason for selling? I drove a 2011 Prius all week as a rental. its a Prius 5. fully loaded. i got about 51 mpg with the same numbers above.
so - would it be worth selling? if so, how much is a "fair price". i paid $1500. put in another $500 with all the tune up/stereo stuff, and paid $193.04 in sales tax for new plates/registration.
i've looked at other cars online at like cars.com or autotrader, and some older, nasty corollas with more mileages and paint rubbing off, a/c not working, bad shocks, for like $4000 - 6000k?
i guess i'm testing the waters here. what would be a realistic price in the dallas, tx area?
KBB and NADA suggest over 5k.
I'll post pics tomorrow as it is 9:38pm. as I type this.
OR
should i just keep the car and enjoy it till it drive into the ground?
any feedback/comments are greatly appreciated.
