2007 Corolla S --- Potential Buyer with Questions

Good Morning,

I am currently interested in purchasing a 2007 Corolla S from my local dealership. The salesman let me rent the car for the day, to see the fuel efficiency, and to make sure it's what I truly want.
The car features the 6-speaker stereo, black leather seats, a sunroof, and has 60,000 miles with a clean Carfax. The dealership wants $15,500 for the car.

Is there anything I should look out for on this generation of Corolla's? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi: Save for an interior that has been described as being cheap, nothing really. You can do a Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) check to see how much this year with this much mileage is going for. $15.500 is high, in light of brand new ones being only a little more. Good luck.

Sound like you have the same car I do. The only thing I'd check is to make sure the ECM recall was done. I don't have my paperwork in front of me but I can post the number tonight. The recall was to inspect and either replace or repair the ECM. Other than that it's a great running car. I've got 86K on mine and average in the 35-38 MPG. The price is high though. I paid the same price 3 years ago for the same car. With the price of gas nowadays, dealers try to screw you over the price and tell you that "everyone wants this car, look at how much you'll save on gas money" it's all crap. A new one isn't that much more and comes with a warranty. Good luck, buying a car is akin to dental surgery in my opinion. I hate dealerships.

I would say thats a bit pricy for the car. I got my 09 Corolla LE for $15,000 - but if you like the car ask again for a price dip. Another good deal maker is to find the same car for cheaper and show the dealer look for any dents, rust chips, scratchs, mel-functions (i.e compartments that dont close correctly), spare tires included or not etc. Best of Luck!

Wow, that cost is way too high, better negotiate or walk away.

Thanks for your responses!
For the record, I haven't purchased the car. The salesman wasn't too willing to budge on the price, so I left. The next day, I got a phone call from him offering me $2,500 for my car as a trade in. I haven't gave in yet, hoping he will call back with an even better deal.

Have you considered living without leather (hot in summer) and a sunroof (they can leak) and buying a brand new S with a full warranty?

It looks like they're selling for only a few thousand more than your dealer is asking for that 4-year old one with 60K. I know that Corollas have an amazingly low depreciation rate, but that's better for the new car buyer than the used car buyer.

One thing to remember that the "S" gets you nothing but some body panels and maybe a spoiler. Nothing performance related is included. The "S" package is a rip-off in my opinion. A LE is the better buy.

I am fairly set on the S model. I'm not too keen on the seats inside the LE models, they feel very uncomfortable to me.
I really like the sporty seats of the S model, and I like the body kit.
I also find a sunroof useful opposed to air conditioning, but I guess I am spoiled with my current car.

I decided to wait on this Corolla. It's still for sale, and I'm hoping the salesman will call me back with a deal. If not, there will be plenty more available.

I think you have the best idea. The salesman will bother you more, but 15.5K is too much for that car.

Thanks! I believe it's my best bet. He already knows how much I love the car, it's just a matter of him contacting me to make a deal.
