05 wheel bearing parts

Need to do the wheel bearings on my 2005 corolla type s, wondering if there is a complete hub assembly or if i need to take it to a shop to have it pressed in. The noise concerns me since it has been making it for a while I would like to also replace the hub assembly. If i can buy a hub assembly with the baring already pressed in that would save time. If anyone has done this or knows where to get parts that would be helpful.

Many Thanks

You need to have the bearing pressed in the steering knuckle, and the hub pressed in the bearing... They are available seperately. You don't usually need to replace the hub, but it can be hard to remove the bearing's half inner race from the hub without damaging it.

So am I better off having this done at a shop, or will I be able to pull these off without too much trouble or specialized equipment?

You can only remove the steering knuckles by unbolting them from your struts, unbolting the ball joint fron the control arm, and removing the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Large circlip pliers are needed to remove bearing circlip. You can start by applying penetrating oil to circlip before taking your steering knuckles and new bearing to a service center... Only a professional repair shop with hydraulic press and proper adapters or specific pullers can remove old bearing and press new one in without damaging it.
You will then need a front camber and toe alignment.

PPrana,

I concur with the other posters on this one- since replacing the wheel bearings is a physically taxing and time-consuming job it would be a sagacious idea to take your car into a trained professional for the repair. I noticed that your in Santa Monica so I recommend checking out curbside mobile service (http://www.curbsidemobileservice.com/). They not only do solid repair work but also come to you and work on your ride at your place (garage, curbside, driveway, etc) If you wish to procure the required parts yourself and want cheap OEM Toyota parts I'd recommend http://www.toyotapartszone.com/Page_...A)&sectionID=2.

Good luck with your repairs buddy!

did the struts and shocks today, along with the front brakes, pads and rotors. Pretty sure it needs drivers side axle, along with bearing. I am in santa Barbara, not Santa Monica. Will have to take her to a shop to get it sorted, I think this one is too much of a headache to fix. Anyone know the shop time for that repair?

Canada

When I had to do the bearings on the front of my wifes 05 Echo I pulled the knuckles myself and took them to the Toyota dealer to get new bearings put in (they are done the same as the Corolla) and the labour was only 1/2 hour each to Re and RE bearings. Brought them home reinstalled and never had an alignment done. (I didn't change any of the steering parts). She put 100,000 km's on the car after and no funky tire wear at all.

In my opinion alignments are to be done only if you hit something or you change a tie rod because even the strut and ball joint just bolt in(in most cases). Shops want to do the alignment because it's an extra $100.00 in thier pocket.
