2007 corolla interior flashing lights

Hello,

I am trying to figure out what are the red and blue flashing lights to the left of the steering wheel in the 2007 corolla ce that our family just bought. The red light (above word "security") flashes continuously when the car is off, as does the blue light I believe, which is next to a button with a phone symbol. Is the flashing normal, does it drain battery, and what do these buttons do? Thanks so much!

Joshua

Are you kidding me??? That red light is there, only to tell me that the key is not in the ignition? OK, 1 issue answered, Now, whats the little holder between the mirror and the "no-key-in-ignition-warning-light" light supposed to hold? I'd assume quarters, but you never know.

Really??? No key in the ignition warning light?? Wow.

He's right... Toyota wouldn't want you to try driving around without a key in the ignition, so if you try, that light will flash to remind you... Actually, I think it's suppose to make this car look like it has an alarm. But, it doesn't. If you were a car thief you would have known this...

I think that slot is for your quarter. I didn't even notice it on mine.

It is a fake security light that blinks when the key is not in the ignition.

Holder is for change.

that thing's a bit small for change imo, that spot just forward of the cupholders is much better! that thing's like only one toll booth's worth (depending on the toll i guess).

The red light doesn't just indicate that there isn't a key in the ignition. It indicates that the car cannot sense a valid security chip near the ignition (it's embedded in the key) and that if you try to start the car without one, the engine will be disabled.

If you attempt to start the car without a valid chip, or try to 'hotwire' the car, a dealer will have to reset the engine computer before the car will run again.

Most all insurance companies give a pretty good discount for this. Make sure you're getting it.
