Help! 2005 Corolla CE --- P2716 & P0138

Hi, I'm new to the forum and really glad to join this online community.

My 2005 Corolla CE had its CEL on and started shifting harshly. I went to Autozone to get the CEL checked out and got two codes, P2716 & P0138.

I did some research on here and found that there's a TSB issued for P2716. Has anyone had any luck getting this TSB honored even past warranty? My car now has roughly 90k miles and I'm afraid the dealership won't have the repair done at no cost.

As for P0138, it reads Faulty heated oxygen sensor - bank 1 sensor 2, so I'm guessing that's the O2 sensor. Which one is it though? I believe there are two O2 sensors on my car.

Thanks!

bank 1 sensor 2. on a 4 cylinder engine there is only 1 bank, sensor 2 is the one furthest downstream (in our case).

Note that TSB are not the same as Recalls - TSBs afford technicians a recommended procedure to repair a specific issue. TSBs are not generally automatic "free" repairs.

If the car is exhibiting an issue that is identified by the TSB and the car is still inside the warranty - then that repair will be covered under warranty. Once the car is outside of the warranty, then the TSBs are just guidelines on how to repair the car - you have to foot the bill, unless you have coverage elsewhere.

Sometimes this a dealership call - especially places where you have a good business relationships with the technicians/service writers/owner - they might be able to extend a "goodwill" repair at no or reduced charge. Worth calling around and seeing if anyone will be able to do that for you - might get someone to cover that, since you are not that much outside of the warranty period and could mean future business for that dealership.
