Canada Water Pump and Front Shock leaks

Hey all,

I just took my 05 CE in for it's 178,000km oil change, and the dealer reported a leak in the water pump and the Front Right shock absorber. They didn't fix anything because I wasn't able to spare the time at the moment, but I'm wondering how I might be able to validate their "findings." If so, how could I go about doing so.
As a side note, the car performs just fine, and definitely nothing to suggest a suspension problem (weird tire tread wear, wobbling etc.). Car is still tight (yeah it is, lol!). How would one check the water pump? What else might "fail" in the car should that part go un-repaired.
Any thoughts or anyone had similar issues?

Check for pink crust (dried coolant) around the water pump area. If it is just leaking out of the weep hole you probably would not see any coolant on the ground. Also check the belt area and underneath the hood for the dried coolant. Coolant drop is a hint too.

Check for any abnormal liquid around the shock. Take off the wheel and give it a look.

Open the hood and look for the serpentine belt (the only moving belt under the hood) and it should be the bottom most pulley.

This will kinda help. http://www.diymytoyota.com/corolla/r...rpentine-belt/

All you want to do is look for pink crust around the belt area. If you jack up the car you may get a better look at the water pump from below.

I reciently took my 07 in for a transmission service and they said I had a water pump leak as well. I have no obvious signs of a leak (puddle on the ground) so I just check the amount of coolant in the radiator. If it is leaking, it's the worlds sloooowest leak as the coolent level hasen't moved in days. In looking around, the cost of the pump is about $60. So whatever price you are quoted for replacement, anything past $60 is labor and profit.
