Transmission Fluid

I have a 06 Corolla CE (45K miles). I bought it new and since then go to the dealership for regular oil and filter change that is recommended in the Service manual that comes with the car.

Water pump, Tensioner and Serpentine belt were changed under warranty during this time so I have a new belt anyway.

I was reading in this forum that several members have changed transmission fluid or recommended to change transmission fluid. This is not recommended ot mentioned in the Service manual from Toyota and the dealership never mentioned. Even the coolant change/flush is not mentioned.

So question is why should we change transmission fluid? or does this really help increase the engine life? The color of the transmission fluid looks OK.

Thanks

not being mentioned in the owner's/service manual aside, do you think it could be a bad thing to change the fluid? no. new fluid trumps old fluid every time. old fluid can make the component, whatever it may be, run less efficiently.

Replace auto transmission fluid at every 72 months/60000 miles, manual tranny fluid at every 48 months/40000 miles, coolant at every 40000 miles, as recommended by Toyota in the "Recommended Maintenance" section of your Owner's Manual Supplement: "Warranty, Maintenance & Roadside Assistance Information for 2006 Models".

Some drivers for whatever reason idle the vehicle for a long time, so a vehicle might have 50000miles but in reality it running like 75000miles, so it's better to be proactive and i prefer to change it before the suggested time/mileage, if something fail it will not be because of the fluid, also the color might look ok, but did you compare it to new fluid? i suggest to buy a liter of fluid at the dealer and compare color and odour and you might your mind....and if you do it you will save a lot of money

You probably just made a typo...but changing the tranny fluid would not have any effect on the Engine...........that being said if I was you I would swap out the fluid.....I think yours is Toyota type IV. 8 quarts would be <$50. dropping the pan is best but even pumping out the 7 quarts is very good also.....That fluid in your car is 6 years old.....
