Just purchased a 2007 S Model

Hello Everyone,

After several months of research and waffling, I decided to put my 1995 Mercedes Benz C280 to rest, and purchase an S model Corolla.

I'm very happy with my purchase, as I did not sacrifice any features from my Benz to the Toyota. It came with leather interior, 6-Disc, Sunroof, and of course a spoiler.

If anyone is interested, I can post pictures. Also, if anyone has any cool tips or tricks for the car, I'd be happy to hear them.

Nice ride. Just got my 06 CE (consumer edition?/base model). I'm not sure what the differences are mechanically though. Maybe some suspension changes or a different differential gear. I know the body is different. If anyone can explain the differences please do.

I can honestly say that I don't envy the leather in this summer heat lol.

there are no real mechanical differences between CE/LE/S models. Xrs' had different engines and transmission, wheels, suspension, and steering.

Good choice Jayden - I have the same car, just not as loaded as yours! I recommed that you get rid of that awful OEM horn and replace it with a high and low tone horn. I did that on mine and I swear that it has gotten me out of two accidents, those other drivers may not of heard my wimpy factory model.

I have 62,000 miles on mine, other than the Recalled computer, mine has been bullet proof, given me 34.72 mpg of mostly city driving. So, I just remnded myself, check to see if your car got the recall(for the ECU) taken care of - not every 07 needed it.

Happy Trails!

Just to add to what TrdSpeed140 mentioned:

The only reason I bought the S is that it was the only trim line with the dark interior. It also comes with the white gauges, and the extra body kit on the bottom of the car.

The LEs have the best looking instrument set, IMHO.

I actually liked the wood grain on the LE's, because it was similar to my Benz... but the dark interior with tinted windows is great. I'm wondering if the previous owner special ordered this car, because it was manufactured in October of 2006, and it was purchased very soon after that.

I put pictures in my profile if anyone is curious to see.

Leather in an S??? I thought S had the fabric interior (Atleast my previous S had). Looks like aftermarket leather.

Yeah, I wonder if they are aftermarket too. The only thing is the seats have a tag sewn to the seat that say: 'SRS Side Airbag'. I will try to get a picture of it.

Got an 07 "S" myself, but not nearly as decked out as yours. I gotta agree with the poster above on the horn. It's barely a horn and more of an excuse to get a new one. I topped off the tank this morning and am getting 38MPG. Which is exactly the reason I traded my truck in several years ago. I wish the "S" was more than some eye candy though. A few extra ponies would be nice on hills and interstate on-ramps.

Which horn did you get for a replacement? Was it a direct fit? I had to use mine the other day and don't know if the other dude even heard it.

I am glad to hear you are happy with yours!
I just did my first fill-up today, which was only $38. I guessed that they topped off the tank when I bought it, which means that I got roughly 33MPG. Pretty exciting compared to 22 MPG!

Do any of you know how much gas is remaining when the little warning light illuminates? I don't see anything in the manual about this.

We have an '05 S, has been a great car....other than routine maintenance, only things I've had to do were have the tension pulley idler (whatever it's actually called) replaced some years back, and had the ecu replaced this Jan - both done gratis by Toyota dealer Only thing I've "upgraded" are installed a Progress rear stabilizer bar (24mm replacing original - 18 or 19mm???) and a DCSports front strut tower bar. The car now feels the way it should have from the get go.... holds a line nice, no sawing back and forth to keep a line....feels "heavier" (for lack of better words) /more stable on the highway(seemingly tracks straighter), just feels more "tossable" in everyday driving. Of course, if Toyota had equipped them this way in the first place, then they'd sell less TRD parts....heh. .....well worth the couple hundred $$$ and short amount of DIY install. A Corolla is what it is, and it's been a damn good car - my only real complaint is no telescoping steering, but that's minor. Over 100,000 miles, still getting 36+mpg on road trips@80mph w/ ac on,3 passengers and full trunk, doesn't burn/leak any fluid.....It's fun enough to drive, now, but, yeah, could be quicker (but if I want quicker, I just borrow the wife's Kia Forte SX w/ the 2.4L .... KIA has come a LONG way in the last couple years!!! Compared it to the final model 'rolla XRS that was offered, this thing handles better - although slightly less compliant ride, is faster, and gets a lil better mpg....and looks better to boot. Toyota had better step up their game)

What I did for a better honk

Got a high/low pair of Hella horns from an internet site, P# 003399801, I think... They are rated at 118dB. Removed the stock junk horn and mounted them in 2 existing holes on either side of the hood latch, between the radiator and the grill (it almost looks like they were intended for mounting horns). I shimmed the brackets out to clear a metal lip using 2 washers on both horns. Wired them up.

<not a pic of my car>

<not my drawing either. Guy that goes by CircuitJerk @ 9th gen did these>

I kept my car pretty simple, but that's how I like 'em.

Good luck!

Your rims look cool!

Also, you may all know this, but Toyota's website has a way to view your vehicle's history. You can type in your VIN number and update your ownership information. It also shows every service record available for your vehicle. I found it to be very handy and informational- especially because my car was well-maintained by the previous owner.
