Help with rear wheel bearing-2005

On my 05 LE with 108K miles I need to replace the driver side rear wheel bearing. It's making a horrendous sound while driving and a loud grinding noise while jacked up and spinning the tire at low speeds. I know they are sold as hub assemblies and mine is not ABS. How hard is it to replace? Can I get away with aftermarket parts? I'd like to do it myself as money is tight. Thanks.

I replaced mine, same side rear on my 04, I didn't notice the sound and it probably was bad for a couple years until a car repair friend was sitting in my back seat and told me my bearing was bad! It looked like it was an easy replacement until I found the hub was frozen and took me a couple hours to get it off! I think I paid about $65 for the hub at a local auto parts store, you probably might get a better price on line...If you have to take your drum brake shoes apart, remember or take a picture of how they came off cause sometime you can't find where that extra part/spring goes..Just a tip, good luck

When you say frozen, what parts were actually stuck together? I have seen a video on an older corolloa that did not require any brake parts removed other than the drum. Then it was 3 or 4 bolts only as the bearings are part of the assembly. Am I wrong?

This is where it was frozen on and there wasn't much space back there to get something in to try to wedge it loose. We had to remove/move a few things to get a better angle but I don't remember what, it's been almost 4 years since I did it! I have a Toyota repair book with a blow up of the area, I'll try to put in on here tonight! If it wasn't for being frozen on it would have been a simple job!

Ahh. Got it. I will spray some PB Blaster back there. I also assume that becuase there is no abs sensor plug on mine-looks just like the picture-that I don't have/need the rear abs assembly($40 more than non-abs assembly).

I hope PB blaster will get all the way down into that flange, but yours might not be frozen like mine was!

Thanks for all the help. Got the part from Amazon for $67 no tax free shipping for the Beck Arnley 051-6159. It's over $100 everywhere else. Had the hardest time getting the drum off. I guess that brake was adjusted too much and the shoes were too close to the drum-which becuase of wear had a lip at the outer edge and prevented the drum from slipping off. Using the two bolt method I ended up cracking the drum at the bolt locations! Once the drum was off it only took 5 minutes to swap out the bearing carrier. Put a new drum on and good to go.

I need to adjust that side still as the shoes drag a bit on the drum. How do you release the lever in order to turn the star wheel and which direction would lessen the brakes? Thanks.
