USA 05 XRS blows fuel system fuse

My 2005 XRS has blown the fuel system fuse and obviously won't start. Replaced the fuse and it started right up but blew 30 seconds later. Is it right to assume it's the fuel pump gone bad or something else? I've never touched or added any electrical part. I've owned it since it was new so neither has anyone else.

that's a possiblity, the fuel pump, but I'd want to take a look at the fuel system wiring diagram (anyone got it????) first to rule anything else out first before you go buying a new pump.

If you can get to the fuel pump connector, unplug it and then refuse and see what happens...

Thanks for the ideas. If I unplug the fuel pump, the car isn't going to start so how would I "see what happens"?

yeah, that's not a good test. all that does is make an open in the circuit and won't really tell you anything.

Blowing the fuse means something somewhere in the circuit is short-circuiting. I looked at the circuit diagram and I decided that the most likely culprit is probably your pump, it's really the only load in the circuit. One or some of the windings in the pump are most likely shorted causing the fuse to blow.
Do you let the fuel in the tank get really low sometimes? The fuel actually cools the pump, so if the pump is getting too hot from low fuel then that could possibly cause the windings to short.

Unpluging the fuel pump will isolate it from the rest of the system. Make sure your fuse is good after you unplug the pump, then just turn your key on and if the fuse doesn't blow then it's the pump.

Yea, ok, I suppose you may be right, lol. But I believe the pump is the only thing in the circuit that could cause his problem. every other component grounds through the ECU so that would pop A CEL if they were shorting.

I bought a new pump at a wrecking yard for way less than any store or dealer. Gonna swap it out tomorrow. Anyone have any tips for that?

I think you need a special service tool to get into the tank, but you can probably make something.
