Humming noise on cold start-up

Hello Everyone,
I am new to Corollas however I have had other Toyotas in my time. I just purchased a 2005 XRS which I am really excited about. My question is; when I start ther car after it has sat for a while and the engine is cold there is a humming sound that I assume is just the fan coming on to produce more drag on the motor to help it warm up. I hear the sound for a little while when the car is cold and after a minute or so it goes away but it doesn't just stop it ramps down and I don't hear it at all until I get in a cold car again. Am I correct, is it just the fan, or is there something else? Thanks

I think you are describing normal start up idle unless your belt tensioner is bad. The rad fan should not come on at cold start up unless the AC or defrost is on.
