oil sludge/knocking sounds

Hi there. Im having difficulty with my 3zz engine. i am aware that my 1st problem is the oil sludge because of lack of maintenance and probally wrong engine oil but what makes it difficult to understand is where the knocking sounds is coming from. i took several pictures hope someone can help me out.

due to the sludge that metal (spacer,or whatever it is)was seperated from the part of the cylinder head but im still using the car and its runs fine..i thought that the knocking sounds is coming from that spacer this morning i decided to remove that metal spacer but guess what the knocking sounds became frequent and may oil indicator blinks from time to time..when i hear the knocking sounds the oil lamp warning is light when i dont hear the knocking sounds the light is off..pls help..Godbless

Holy crap. Your engine is disgusting! Oil pressure indicator blinks from a lack of oil pressure due to all that sludge, which is why it's knocking. What the hell were you thinking letting it go like that? That's a severe case of neglect and lack of mechanical sympathy.

^Basically what he said, your valvetrain isn't getting lubricated properly due to the fact that everything is gunked up with sludge. Might be a Stuck/trashed lifter? You need to run some seafoam through that bad boy once you get the problem resolved because those photo's make me cringe!

LOL It's not sarcasm. It's just appalling shock... That spacer looks like it seperated from your camshaft bearing cap. The knocking could well be your crankshaft main bearings and connecting rod small end bearings, beside possible piston slap and valve train noises. Your engine is pretty much toast.

Right. That spacer was in fact pressed on the camshaft. Now, more lateral movement is allowed... Are you able to move the camshaft by hand? How many Kms are on the engine?

3ZZ-FE shares the same camshafts as our 1ZZ-FE (inlet 13501-22061, exhaust 13502-22011). The pair including timing gear are for sale for $75 plus shipping (used):
