DRL and low beam

2005 corella LE
I've searched and searched and have not found any info in regard to my prob.

I am assuming the low beam bulb and the DRL are the one and the same bulb. How does this system work? Again I am assuming that since the DRL and the low beam are the same, the voltage applied to the bulb during DRL usage causes the bulb to be dimmer and when you switch to the low beam at night, the voltage increases so the bulb is brighter???

If that is the case, mine don't work right. I don't notice any change when the car switches from DRL to low beam and I can't see squat at night becuae I believe the light bulb is running in DRL mode and not throwing out a lot of light.
I have to turn on the brights to see at night which as you know, blinds the crap out of on-coming cars.

It does appear the low beams are turning up a little when I go from DRL to low beam.
I pulled in behind a black truck and switched between drl and low beam and I could see the intensity increase just a little bit. I guess that means everything is working as far as the switches and DRL relay.

I think my next step is to check the alignment of the low beam and see where that hits and then replace the low beam bulbs.
These low beams are crap. I can't believe Toyota designed something as unsafe as this. I hope the alignment or bulb replacement fixes it.

Well, it can be a matter of perspective..... try driving a '92 Celica with old school sealed beam lights, and you'll think the Corolla is bright as all get out. Definitely worth checking the alignment, and perhaps you need a good lens buffing? Hazy lenses will cut way back on light output. Going from the ol' Celi to the '05 'rolla, I'm more than satisfied with the output of the stock lights. At the worst, perhaps you have vision problems??? - j/k. Good luck!!!

Did you get a chance to change out the bulbs, did it fix the problem?

I changed out the bulbs and no difference.
I followed toyota's directions on headlight alignment and the dims were set at 4 inches below the centerline. I moved both dims up to the centerline and it still didn't help. These lights blow
Funny thing I found in the toyota service manual. it says to adj the light adjustment screw clockwise to raise light. well that is bull. counterclockwise raise light and clockwise lowers.

Are your headlight lenses cloudy? What brand bulbs did you use?

You can try switching out to silverstar ultras or HIRs (NOT HIDS, HIRs)
