Consult regarding Corolla S 2003 please help

Hello everyone, I am looking into purchasing a Corolla S 2003, some people have advised me that it presents problems like: consuming oil, engine problems and ecu computer problems.

Also in the other hand some people have advised me it is a very reliable car and that it does not present problems.

I am very confused in regards to the liability of this car and very afraid of taking a decision of purchase.

Please help!!!

I have a 2003 LE with 84,000 miles on it. Have not had one issue with the car. I am the original owner and I will say I would never buy another used car only because from the experience I have had with used cars (US domestic built), people just don't take care of them like they are suppose to. That being said, my 2003 LE doesn't burn oil or leak oil. I have never had any check engine lights, the A/C still works great after 9 years and have never had to service it, it get 32-35 mpg all the time, no rattles or weird noises and starts up every time. Its been a dream car but I have done all necessary and some unnecessary preventative maintenance to it to keep it in top shape. I've been thinking about buying a new S model but really don't need to. I have seen some people have issues with their cars on this site but not sure how well they maintained their cars or if they just had one of those few cars that does cause problems. The LE has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. Hope this helps some.

I have a 04 same model(silver) with 151K basically the exact same as yours 03/04 were the same! Mine doesn't burn any oil ether, at 151K no problems with the engine/tranny or leaks, but my check engine light did come on twice one was an rear oxygen sensor which I replaced myself for $60(very easy), and a faulty fuel cap $25. I changed the plugs at 90K, three sets of tires, numerous wheel alignments, three front brake jobs(pads and rotors) one rear (shoes) + wheel cylinders leaking had to be replaced, three batteries, one rear wheel bearing(driver)...My alloy rims are chipping, replaced my serpentine belt twice and the tensioner once, my windshield washer pump rusted and cracked in half, my headlights were fogging and had to be replaced(under warranty)my front seat brackets are rusting, front window needs replaced from road chips/cracks, brake rubber pad replaced, my dash console tray broke, hinges on my center console broke($30 for 2 hinges from Toyota), my windshield sprayer nozzle plugged up and had to be replaced under warranty, one front wheel liner had to be replaced, rear door handles are leaking rust, weather stripping on my rear doors came loose, I lost one trunk tail light inspection cover that Toyota wants $26 for the 6 inch piece of cloth! but my car runs fine and sometimes I can push 42 mpg on trips, I love it!

I have had zero issues with my 05 LE at 76,000 miles. I purchased it used in 2006 with about 10,000 miles on the odometer. I have only replaced things that are wear items; tires, oil changes, wiper blades, air filter, battery. This is the most trouble free car I have ever owned, which is a lot more than I can say for the piece of crap GM cars I have owned before.

The Corolla is one of the most reliable cars out there. I've owned 3 already (98 CE, 00 LE, 06 S). The CE had a few minor issues, but the last two have been great. I got the 06 about a couple months ago from the original owner. 117k miles and not a single problem. I'm a very loyal Toyota owner now. Dont see myself owning anything else.
