Canada How to remove trunk latch on 2007 Corolla

Hi,

my trunk does not open, neither by key, nor by the lever near the driver seat, nor by the emergency lever on the latch inside the trunk. My rear seats are not locked, so I am able to get inside the trunk. I see two bolts near the yellow plastic cover of the latch. Are they the only bolts that hold the latch to the lid ? If I remove them, will the lid open ?

Eugene

I just replaced mine last month. Those two bolts are it, I believe 10 mm. There is a connecting rod that goes to the key hole that you have to pop out and the cable that goes to the latch that just slides out. There is an adjustment screw on the latch, but I could not get it to the correct adjustment and got frustrated with it and got a new one. The latch was under a new part number and comparing the old one with the new one, there was a design change, probably because of people like you and me that had issues with it.

Thank you very much. Your reply encouraged me to go ahead with removing these 2 bolts.
After that I disconnected the rod and the cable and lifted the lid. Unfortunately I make the latch to loose its grip until I noticed s mall screw blocking the way of the lever. What is that screw and how it ended up being there is a puzzle for me. But after re-reading your reply I now think that this could be that adjustment screw that simply fell out. I could not find its proper place.
Do you have a chart of the latch assembly (or a photograph) showing the location of the screw ?

Thank you once again,

Eugene
