Oil for my corolla

Went to my local dealer today to buy oil. The seller couldn't decide between castrol magnetic 10W-40 A3
or castrol magnatec 5W-30 A1. i have an 2005 corolla 1,4 d4d- diesel with 65 000 km on it.

what should i buy? i know my garage has used magnetic on it earlier, but i don't know if it was the 10-40 or 10-30.

I live in Norway and drive in winter with low temperatures.

Hope someone can give me a pointer on what oil to buy

Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1.
Edge 5W-30 synthetic, or Edge 0W-30 synthetic for colder conditions.

If you want to run synthetic a 0W30 grade oil would be better if you live in a cold climate.

It would help the car start easier in colder temperatures.

thanks. ill buy the 5-30 A1 oil.

when i see under the car there is a cover under the engine. there is a hatch ill have to open to reach the oil filter. i haven't tried to open it, but i imagine that ill need to get the car higher up than usual because this hatch makes med to position myself more right under the car. that ill need to get the car on some stands before the oil change...

"Changing the oil and filter on a 1.4 D4D.

Oil filters with a flat seal need to be tightened by hand pressure only.
The Toyota replacement filter 90915-TB001 has a rounded seal and requires to be tightened 3/4 of a turn after screwing the filter in to touch the engine. It is not possible to tighten this far by hand and a tool is required to grip the filter from below. The normal chain or strap filter, for a side mounted filter, is of no use due to the limited access and I consider a tool to grip the oil filter from below essential. Toyota sell a tool as part number SST 09228-06501 but similar tools can be obtained elsewhere.
Changing the oil and filter can be accomplished with the car on the ground without removing the plastic under panel . The receptacle for the oil has to have a height of only about 80mm in order to have sufficient clearance to remove the drain plug using a 14mm spanner through the hole in the plastic under panel. I used a 10 litre round plastic paint container cut down to 80mm and fitted a small plastic tap near the bottome in order to facilitate emptying.
There are two flaps that have to be opened,10mm screws, in the plastic under panel in order to remove the oil filter . One assists visibility while one is for access to the the filter. I repeat a removing/ tightening tool is essential.
Make sure all surfaces for drain plug and filter are clean. The drain plug should be refitted with a new seal and torqued to 27ft.lbs. The oil filter should be filled with the new oil making sure that the seal is also oiled. It should then be fitted by hand and tightened 3/4 of a turn using special tool. After filling with appropriate oil to recommended level run the engine, check for leaks and secure the plastic flaps on the under panel."

As specified by Mobil for the 1.4 D4D diesel engine; Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 synthetic, or Mobil 1 Fuel Economy 0W-30 synthetic available in Norway. (Mobil USA's "Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30" synthetic has different specs).
